Many very popular Cuban Salsa tracks have a very heavy Son feel to them. Once you notice this in the music it can be difficult to ignore it, so why not dance the Son. On the other hand with some Son tracks it can be difficult to find  and keep the two without experience.

Son music has a very traditional feel and sound which is generally a world away from modern Timba.

  • Son..

Ok for this one, there are some very basic rules even before you leave home. No trainers and clean your shoes. Trousers no jeans and a shirt and jacket would be good. The key is gaining the respect of the women showing her you are prepared to make the effort and will treat her like the crown jewels. Even when you ask her to dance its done with dignity and taking her hand you walk her to the dance floor, not dragging her behind you. The hold as well as your stance is clean, firm and upright. If its done properly watching a 75 year old Cuban dance will make you cry, it can be that good.
This is a very traditional Cuban dance which salsa is heavily based on.

Son is danced on the two. So the step is on the two, three and four or just after the fourth beat. The Son is not danced with such a relaxed feel as the Cuban Salsa but with a little more stature and grace.

Men can demonstrate their balance and strength by performing very difficult moves by making them look very easy and graceful.

New York Salsa, which is danced on the two, has its roots in the Son from the early to mid 1900's. Thou some might disagree.
