Jose and his band Guateque

Jose Ferrea Mulen is from Cuba and now lives in Norwich UK, giving Norfolk its own Cuban band.

Jose and the Bata Drum

Jose finds the roots of Cuban music with his drumming by the using with skill the traditional Bata drums, a drum that found its way from the Yoruba tribes of Africa to Cuba. As well as traditional drumming Jose treated us to a energy filled Chan Chan which you never wanted to stop, Salsa, Son and more. The feeling they gave you was of a very good band from the heart of Cuba. Even thou many of the group come from other parts of the world.

I have seen Jose twice now and they are very well worth going to see.

Jose at Norwich Arts Centre

Members of the band, Guateque, come from Finland, Norwich, STALHAM and South America. On the night they played so well that the audience at the Arts Centre Norwich insisted on more.
