Cuban Salsa Congress Bournemouth

Three nights of the best Cuban Parties and two days of works shops with so much choice that decisions had to be made. The quality of the teaching was as good as it gets and looking at the list of artists it’s easy to see why. The band Cuban Combination played Sunday night and kept the dance floor of this great venue full.

Thank you Enrique and Rob you certainly know what we all want from a Cuban weekender. I will look forward to the next one.

The picture below shows a 14 year old Italian lad that has Cuban dance in his soul. Trained by the best his first time in the Uk and everyone was blown away by his incredable skill. For everyone that saw him words fail to sum up what this lad has !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!              I kid you not watch this space.

Born and raised in Pinar Del Rio and Havana in Cuba, Enrique has been teaching and dancing salsa for over 25 years. He was a finalist in the 1999 British Salsa Championships and was awarded a Diploma from the United Kingdom Alliance for Dance, Drama and Exercise. In recognition of his work to promote Salsa in the UK, Enrique was presented with a Salsa UK Lifetime Achievement Award at the UK International Salsa Congress in 2007.

So over all any bad points, Yes we had to come home.

Played at the Barbican (2009) in place of a Los Van Van that had an injured drummer.

Oscar in a real showman and his Cuban set had the whole place on it’s feet from start to finish and not just the first few rows, the whole place !

The concert was the celabrate Cuba 50 and another high light was a talk by Che’s daughter. This really bought history alive and a reminder that Cuba’s revolution was only a short time ago.

Cuban Class and Club Night Thur 6th Aug

Sutton Staithe Hotel near Stalham, about 20 mins from Norwich. Starts at 8pm teaching at three levels Cuban Salsa and Styling. Plus tonight we also have Rueda.

After the Class we have the latest Cuban music, wooden dance floors and lighting with a great PA System.

DanceCuban

The Cuban salsa classes have now been running at Sutton Staithe Hotel for just over a year. Over half of the people that come to the class now came on that first night last year. Most were new to dancing and we feel that some of our reasons for starting the Club have been achieved. We didn’t not only want to teach people to dance we wanted them to love the roots of the dance and to give them something special to take away with them, that infectious magic you get when you see how dance and music is such apart of the Cuban people.

We wanted our teaching to be as Cuban as we could get it and in the process we have learnt a lot.

What the people in our classes have achieved they have done for themselves we are just glad to have given them the opportunity.

The other reason for starting DanceCuban was to do our bit in getting people to dance to the music.

If it’s Cuban music then it’s Cuban dance “period”

If it say’s Cuban Classes then that’s what they should be.

The Keir Hardy Hall Friday Nights in Norwich will/is being taken over by the Business “Chilli Con Salsa”. As this has been such am important part of Cuban Nights out in Norwich we will wait to see if it will remain so or will it disappear into the oblivion of general South American Latin sounds. Any feedback will be printed if printable.

Don’t forget that Dance Cuban Thursday nights at Sutton Staithe will give you a great night where nobody wants to leave ( Ask anyone who’s been ) £ 4.00 to dance  

Ingham Fete in Norfolk

Dance Cuban is going to Ingham Fete (Norfolk) on the 15th Aug so if you would like to help with a very short demo and tell people of your love for Cuban Salsa come and join us. We are going for an Indian in Wroxham at 6.30pm( we will need to know about this bit) followed by a lot of dancing at ours during the night. Call me but not about upgrading my company phone !!!

With out the help of local salsa groups and people with a passion of Afro Cuban dance this event would not have happened. It did happen and the result was a day to remember and with a atmosphere that was electric. Ending in a party and shows that just got better.  

Over £ 500 raised for the East Air Amubulance.

Salsa in the Snow at Sutton

What a great sight all you guys turning up covered in giant flakes of Snow for your weekly dose of Cuban Salsa. (12th Feb 2009). What a lovely nigh it was I so enjoyed playing the music, I have some more new Salsa, Timba and Bachata tracks for you next week. That is if Ups live up to there name and deliver.
