End of an era.

Jackie has been teaching Rueda in Gorleston near Gt Yarmouth for years now. In a very pretty and charismatic loft over looking the harbour and the North Sea.

No thats not the North Sea!

No that's not the North Sea!

On my and my wife’s first visit to the loft we found a circle of all the good dancers of the area doing the move Classico. Very impressive for us as we had only been dancing Salsa a few months and here we were in amongst the elite of Norfolk’s Salsa World. All we knew about Rueda was that it seemed fun and a move called fly.

In the first class we got a shock 11 moves to remember and the next week I had to call them all. I spent the next 4+ years driving around at work going through Rueda moves in my head so I had them sorted before the next Wednesdays Rueda.

Jackie has a natural rhythm and a very easy way of teaching.

So any weekender organizers out there should snap her up for teaching beginners Rueda.

All this has finally come to an end with Jackie wanting to spend time on other things such as her Samba and Afro-Cuban drumming.

So for all the Guy’s and Girl’s that have passed up the stairs to the loft “ Thanks Jackie”.

She was the one that taught us that if you dance Cuban you must soak up the ethos of Cuba to do it properly.

Although I never visited the loft I have enjoyed being taught Salsa and Rueda by Jackie elsewhere. I’m sorry that somehow I never made it to Gorleston but really appreciated Jackie’s good humoured, encouraging and positive approach to Cuban dance. It takes a special teacher to say “That was rubbish!” after the class practised a move and yet, as a participant, to feel that the smiling way the criticism was made conveyed sympathy and optimism, so that one knew that, with her help, the move would soon be good.
Thank you Jackie for your lessons. I’m sure you will be sadly missed from East Anglian Rueda.

End of an era, indeed. I’m so sorry to hear that Rueda classes are finishing at Gorleston!! Copland’s Loft has always been a hub of warmth, excitement and anticipation, full of fun, humour and uplifting company. The dancing was a bonus! Jacqui’s natural and easy manner has always made classes highly enjoyable, so much so that they never felt like ‘classes’; more of a ‘knees-up’ (or in my case, a spin-off)! And I’m sure we’ll all miss those unforgettable parties… aahh, the chocolate fountain… :-) Jacqui: thanks for all the hard work- we’ll miss you! Love, Polly xx
