Party with Jose y Guateque 30th Jan 2010

At Sutton Staithe Hotel, Norwich UK. We again had Jose and his band Guateque. This time with a full stage of 9 band members. The sets were full of new tracks which included everything you would expect from a very authentic Cuban band. In the second set Jose, Alex and Casper played their Bata drums to the Orisha.

Sharon pre party Nails and Chips.

All the profits of £ 430 on the night went to a Charity for the children of Haiti. This was made up of proceeds of a Raffle in which included mobile phones several bottles of Whiskey lots of bottles of wine, beer and not a bath cube in sight ! All given by friends and people from our class. Also the balance of ticket price of £8 after the venue was paid for and the fact we had to force the band to be paid, after which they made a donation anyway.  Thank you Jennifer and Zenda who made the prizes into great looking packages and all there hard work in taking the money.

Sharon of Dance Cuban getting the total beginners to use their arms.

Angie won the Rueda Loco with Jose knocking out anyone making a mistake and Richard of Dance Cuban calling.

Stage at Sutton Staithe Hotel waiting for the band. The room looked perfect with over 1200 led Christmas lights on all the walls, dance floors and stage.

With nearly 100 people the venue was full with a bar to hold up those who preferred to stand.

Casper playing the Bata drum. The Bata drum is used to play the mesmerising music for the Orisha. Orisha are the spirits of the Afro Cuban religion Santeria which has it’s roots in the Yoruba tribes of Africa.
